Why can’t we find your rent payment?

By Sam Kane · Last checked 9 October 2026

If we cannot find your rent, it is usually because your tenancy is new, your rent is not paid on a regular schedule, or it is paid from a different bank account. You do not lose anything. We keep your account and email you when we can report your rent.

The short version

How we look for your rent

When you connect your bank, we read the last 3 months of transactions. The connection is read-only. We look for a payment that:

  1. goes out on a regular schedule, monthly, every 4 weeks or weekly
  2. goes to the same place each time
  3. is a similar amount each time
  4. has happened at least twice in the last 90 days

When we find one, we show it to you and you confirm it is your rent. If nothing matches, we cannot report yet. Get in touch and we will help fix it. Read how rent reporting works.

The usual reasons, and what to do

Reason Why it stops us What you can do
Your tenancy is less than 2 months old We need 2 rent payments to see a pattern Nothing. We keep your account and email you when we can report.
You connected a different account Your rent goes out of another account Connect the account you pay rent from. You can connect a second bank account.
Your rent is not paid on a regular schedule We need rent paid monthly, every 4 weeks or weekly Pay your rent on the same schedule each time if you can. Get in touch and we will help.
Your rent changed recently The new amount does not match the rent we know Log in to your account and tell us the new rent
Someone else pays your rent The payment does not leave your account Pay your rent from your own account
Your housing costs go straight to your landlord The payment does not leave your account We can only report rent you pay from your own account
You pay in cash We cannot see cash payments, so we cannot report them Pay your rent by bank transfer, standing order or direct debit

Rent paid to a housemate, a partner or a family member does not count, and we cannot use it. Read rent reporting if you pay an agent or a housemate. If Universal Credit or housing benefit helps with your rent, read rent reporting for council and housing association tenants.

If your tenancy is new

This is the most common reason. We need a tenancy at least 2 months old and 2 similar rent payments in the last 90 days. If you have just moved in, we cannot see a pattern yet.

You do not need to do anything. You pay nothing until we find your rent. We keep your account and email you when we can report.
